Police investigate theft of mobile phone in Southsea

Information is being sought after a 25-year-old Southsea man had his mobile phone snatched while he was talking on it.

The alleged theft of a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, valued at £450, took place while the victim was sat on a bench on the corner of Somers Road and Worcester Close in Southsea on Saturday, July 16, 2011 between 3am and 3.30 am.

The suspect ran off towards the Sedgley Close and Warwick Crescent area.

Investigating officer PC Allan Cameron of Portsmouth’s Targeted Patrol Teams (TPT) said:  “Mobile technology is becoming more advanced and desirable but unfortunately it is also becoming more sought after by criminals.

“People who carry these types of equipment need to be mindful of the current climate and take care where and when they use them, because as we have seen in this case, your mobile phone can be taken from you in a matter of seconds even when making a simple call.”

The suspect was described as:

> A white man
> 17-18 years old
> Between 5 ft 6 ins and 5 ft 8 ins tall
> Skinny build
> Short dark blond hair
