Police in Winchester are appealing for witnesses after a distraction burglary at an elderly woman’s home. It happened between 3 and 3.30pm on Saturday October 15 at King Alfred’s Place, Winchester-close to River Park Leisure Centre .
A man called at the home of an 87-year-old woman, made conversation and then asked for a glass of water.
Whilst the woman was distracted, the man then went into the address and stole a fawn coloured shoulder style handbag containing cash, bank cards, keys and a diary.
The man is described as
• White
• Between 50 and 60 years old
• 5ft 8 tall
• Large build
• Clean shaven
• Wearing a grey or brown pullover which was quite loose and grey or brown loose fitting trousers
Detective Constable Craig Rainsley is investigating: “This is a despicable crime on an elderly lady. We are carrying out a number of enquiries to try and trace this man.
“Did you see anyone fitting this description in the area or in the grounds of the leisure centre? We’d like to hear from you if you have information which could help us.”
