Police in Tadley seize over 100 bottles and cans in alcohol crackdown

Officers from Tadley have confiscated more than 100 bottles and cans of alcohol as part of an ongoing operation tackling underage drinking and anti-social behaviour.
Operation Cyclonus was carried out across two weekends in August in response to complaints from residents. Officers and PCSOs from the Tadley Safer Neighbourhoods Team were joined by Hampshire County Council’s Accredited Community Safety Officers (ACSOs) and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s Community Wardens as they targeted identified hotspots and seized alcohol from anyone under the age of 18.
The operation also allowed officers to enquire where the alcohol originated from and who had supplied it to the underage drinkers. Police officers are following up on any identified suppliers.
Basingstoke Rural Safer Neighbourhoods Sergeant Terry Arrowsmith said: “This is part of an ongoing operation and will be continuing in the Tadley area and extended into Bramley and Kingsclere over the coming months.
“I would ask parents to make sure they know where their teenage children are and who they are with at weekends. Drunken teenagers are far more likely to put themselves at risk of harm as well as getting involved in incidents of criminal damage and anti social behaviour.
“If teenagers are found with alcohol in a public place, we will call parents and ask them to collect their children from the police station.
“I would also like to remind people that it is an offence for adults to buy alcohol for under 18s. Anyone identified as doing so could receive an £80 fixed penalty notice or end up in court and fined up to £5,000.”
