Detectives in Southampton are appealing for witnesses following a series of bin fires on Wednesday night, in some cases the bins had been pushed up against buildings before being set alight.
There were a number of bin fires started during the evening of Wednesday, May 6. They all happened between around 8.50pm and 11.30pm.
The first was reported 8.54pm when it was discovered that a bin had been set alight at the rear of the British Heart Foundation premises in Portswood Road, this resulted in several thousands of pounds worth of damage.
The next incident was in Cambridge Road at about 9.50pm, wheelie bins at a house were set alight. At about 10pm more bins were set alight at an address in Bath Street. Grosvenor Square was the next reported incident which occurred at about 10.45pm.
This was followed by another fire at an address in Lower Alfred Street. Officers are trying to establish if these incidents are linked and anyone with information is urged to contact police. Officers say someone could have easily have been seriously hurt.
A man in his 30s was arrested and has since been released on bail while enquiries continue. Detectives are now appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to contact them.
