Police in Portsmouth are holding a recruiting event for Special Constables, providing a unique opportunity to get an insight into the role.

On Sunday, November 2, Southsea police station in Highland Road plays host to three taster sessions, for anyone can come along to find out more about being a ‘special’ and whether they feel they could carry out such an important and fulfilling job.

Sessions are at 10am, 11.30am and 1pm, and each will include a presentation with details of exactly what Special Constables do on a day to day basis, and how they fit into the larger organisation of the constabulary.

There will be people who already work as ‘specials’ on hand to answer any questions and give practical answers to help you on your path to applying for the role.

Refreshments will be provided.

April Brown, coordinator for Specials in Portsmouth, said, "This is a great personal development opportunity for people who may have been interested in working with the police to come along and find out more information. Special constables have a big impact on local communities and provide an invaluable service, working alongside regular officers and PCSOs in creating a safer city for us all."

Anyone who wishes to attend one of the sessions should contact April Brown, Special Constabulary Coordinator, at Cosham police station on 02392 891613.
