Police in Portsmouth are investigating an assault of two 11-year-old girls and are appealing for witnesses.
It happened as the pair and two friends (another girl and a boy) were walking along Somers Road towards Somerstown between 3.30 and 4.30pm yesterday (Tuesday October 20). A man, who appeared to be drunk, was outside the Traveller’s Rest public house, as the group neared him, he grabbed hold of two of the girls.
They managed to break free and run off to raise the alarm. Its thought they spoke to a woman who was walking past at the time-police would like to hear from this woman.
The man is described as:
• White
• Black, short, unkempt hair
• 5ft 10 tall
• Skinny build
• In his late 30s
• Wearing a red top, navy blue tracksuit bottoms with white stripes long the sides; white Nike trainers and a black leather jacket
• He may have been wearing a gold ring
PC Justin Fung who is investigating said: “Thankfully the two girls were not injured and managed to run off and raise the alarm. They have provided us with a very good description of the man, and I feel sure someone will know who he is.
“Were you in the area of the Traveller’s Rest pub yesterday afternoon-or were you in the pub? If you have any information on who this man is please contact police.”
