Police in Basingstoke are appealing for information following a burglary on Saturday, October 8.
At around 11.15pm the owner of a property in Culver Road returned home after being out for two hours and found that his house had been burgled. A number of electrical items were stolen including two iPads, an Xbox 360 games console and a laptop. It is believed the offenders broke in through an insecure front door.
PC Dave Cook said: “This was a brazen walk-in type burglary through an insecure door during the late evening. It is possible that the offender or offenders have tried other doors before committing this burglary.
“If you say anyone acting suspiciously in this area on that night, especially if they looked like they were trying to open any doors then please call us.
“This is also a good opportunity to remind residents to ensure they look doors and windows even if you are only leaving for a short period of time.”

There are certain measures you can take to reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim yourself, such as:
- Don’t leave curtains/blinds open, and don’t leave valuables on show.
- If you are going away, consider asking a neighbour or friend to check your house regularly.
- Consider purchasing timer switches for lamps or a radio to give the appearance that someone is home.
- Consider installing an alarm system and ensure the alarm box is clearly visible.
- Don’t leave keys in doors, remove them and keep them close at hand but out of sight where you can easily find them in case of emergency.
- Don’t leave your house unattended with windows open and unlocked – even if it is for a minute.
- If you are in the garden or upstairs, make sure your downstairs doors and windows are closed.
- Never leave a key under a doormat or on string through the letterbox.
