The top five entries in a film competition highlighting the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption are now on YouTube and the voting has been opened to the public.

The ‘One Too Many’ film competition has been jointly organised by Hampshire Constabulary, Thames Valley Police and NHS South Central.

Students across Hampshire and the Thames Valley region were asked to produce a three-minute film to highlight the dangerous consequences of excessive alcohol consumption.

Canon, the competition sponsor, has offered three top of the range camcorders to the winning film directors.

The top five videos can be found here.

To vote for your favourite film please send an email to: Carolyn.miles@hampshire.pnn.police.uk stating the film title you want to win and your name.

The winners will be announced on Wednesday 11 March at an exclusive premiere at the University of Reading.

Inspector Alistair Nichols, Hampshire Constabulary’s Force Alcohol Harm Reduction Lead said: “This competition has been a great way for us to get involved with our local universities and to ask young people to get involved in a campaign that can directly affect their behaviour and attitudes.”

Inspector John Fox, head of Thames Valley Police’s ‘Know Your Limits’ campaign, said: “Young people who have been drinking to excess are more at risk of being the victim of attacks, robberies, and sexual assaults. We are heartened to see that the students taking part in this competition are taking this problem seriously – and in such a creative way.”

Alcohol was the main or secondary cause of 207,800 NHS admissions in England in 2006/7. One in three rapes happen when the victim is drunk and almost half of all violent crime incidents are alcohol related.
