Police continue to appeal for witnesses after PC seriously injured in A27 crash
Officers from the Roads Policing Unit are continuing to appeal for witnesses following a serious crash on the A27 in which a Hampshire police officer was seriously injured.
Shortly before 10am on Wednesday, June 9, police were called to attend a single vehicle collision on the eastbound carriageway near the junction for Portsmouth.
A black Mini Cooper had come off the road. Officers from the RPU at Fratton were dispatched to the scene.
PC Nick Oliver was part of a crew sent to deal with the incident, but in the course of his duties, he was struck by another vehicle – a white Vauxhall Corsa Van.
He was walking along the hard shoulder to place cones on the road in order to close the slip road when he was struck by the Corsa Van.
Police have spoken to the driver of a VW Caddie Van, who they believe was in front in front of the Corsa Van when the collision occurred.
PC Oliver sustained serious life-threatening injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital.
He remains in the intensive care unit and is in a serious condition.
All emergency services were dispatched to the scene and the driver of the Mini Copper was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth for treatment.
Lanes one and two on the eastbound carriageway were closed to allow a full investigation to be carried out. The off slip road for Portsmouth was also closed.
All sections of the road re-opened shortly after 3pm.
