Police continue to appeal for public’s help following Southampton murder

Police in Southampton are continuing to appeal for help from the community and in particular the Polish community, to try and piece together the last known movements of murdered labourer Wieslaw Filus.

Mr Filus, a 45-year-old Polish national was found dead in the bedroom of his flat in Denzil Avenue on Saturday morning. Police were called to the address at around 8am. Murder victim Wieslaw Filus

Mr Filus left his flat at around 7pm on Friday evening and returned home in the early hours. He did not tell his housemates where he was going and police need to find out where he went and who he was with.

Officers now have the lengthy task of trawling through CCTV footage from around the area to try and ascertain where Mr Filus went in the hours before his death.}

Chief Insp Alison Scott of Southampton Central police station, said: “I am appealing directly to members of the community, particularly the Polish community, to help us piece together Mr Filus’ last movements.

“Were you in Southampton between 7pm on Friday and 7am Saturday? Did you see him out and about, and did you notice who Mr Filus was with?

“One theory we are working on is that he left his flat and was assaulted before managing to make his way home and sadly died in his bedroom.

“Did you see a fight taking place in Southampton city centre which you never reported to police? Your information may be crucial to this investigation and we would ask you to come forward and tell us anything you know.

“I’d like to reassure members of the Newtown Community that we are doing everything we can to try and catch the person responsible for Mr Filus’ death.

“A 25-strong team of detectives from the force’s Major Crime dpt are working on the investigation and we have dedicated Polish speaking officers who are also continuing to liaise with the Polish community.”

Mr Filus was described as:
● White
● 5 ft 6 ins tall
● Slight build
● Clean shaven
● Thick, dark hair

He was last seen wearing: ● A dark blue fleece, which had writing on the breast: ‘NIC working in partnership with Tesco’
● Dark blue jeans
● White trainers featuring the England football team ‘Three Lions’ motif.
