Police appeal for witnesses after serious crash on the Isle of Wight
An elderly couple were seriously injured in a crash on the outskirts of Newport on the Isle of Wight.
Shortly before 5pm on Tuesday, August 31, a Peugeot 206 driven by a 92-year-old man was in collision with a Ford Fiesta driven by a 38-year-old woman.
The crash happened on Downs Road at the junction of Knighton Shute in the area of Mersley Down.
The driver of the Peugeot and his passenger – a 90-year-old woman – both sustained serious injuries and had to be freed from the vehicle.
They were both taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport, where they remain in a serious condition.
A 90-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Peugeot also sustained serious injuries and was taken to St Mary’s Hospital.
The driver of the Fiesta and her passenger – a 12-year-old girl – both suffered minor injuries and were taken to St Mary’s Hospital, but we released later that evening.
Officers are keen to speak to anyone who saw the collision or either of the vehicles prior to the collision who haven’t already been spoken to.
