Police appeal for witnesses after robbery in Guildford Road Portsmouth

Press Releases

Published: 30/12/2008

Police in Portsmouth are appealing for help from the public after a robbery.

Between 1.30 and 2.10 am on Monday December 29, a 47-year-old man from Portsea was walking home from a party. As he walked along Guildford Road, he was hit on the head from behind.

The next thing he remembers is waking up and struggling back to his home address. He also realised his silver coloured Nokia mobile phone was missing. He was then taken to Queen Alexandra hospital where he was treated for bruises to his head and face.

Detective Constable Pete Bambury who is investigating said: “We need to find out what happened to this man, and would appeal for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area of Guildford Road to contact us.

“The man was hit from behind and so cannot give us a description of an attacker, and nor can he remember much of what happened.

“We do know that the mobile phone which is missing has been used and we are making enquiries to establish who has the phone.”

A 19-year-old man from Portsea has been arrested in connection with this investigation and was given police bail until March 2.
