Police are appealing for witnesses after a robbery in Basingstoke on Friday, February 26.

At around 10pm a 20-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were walking away from Basingstoke train station down the steps towards Sainsbury’s.

They were approached by a man who started asking them for cigarettes. The man then started to get more aggressive and demanded that the victim handed over the bicycle he was pushing.

The offender then tried to head butt the victim and the victim then handed over the bike and the man walked off with it.

The man is described as:

  • White
  • Aged in his late teens or early 20s
  • About 6ft tall
  • Medium build
  • Light coloured hair
  • Round face
  • Wearing a dark hooded top and dark jogging bottoms

PC Craig Bannerman, of the Basingstoke Targeted Patrol Team, said: “This was an isolated incident that happened late on a Friday night when other people may have been around the area of the train station.

“The busy taxi rank is also nearby and we would ask anyone who saw the man responsible to contact us as soon as possible.

“We would remind commuters and shoppers to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious people to police.”
