Police in Southampton are appealing for witnesses and information after a local man was left with a collapsed lung and puncture wounds to his body.
Police were called at around 9.10pm yesterday (Thursday, July 2) to reports of a bleeding man lying injured on the pavement in Paignton Road, Millbrook.
Prior to police arriving on scene, three men were seen in the vicinity of Paignton Road play park who appeared be involved in a dispute.
Police believe the men may be known to one another, and are appealing to members of the public who may have been in the area at the time of the assault and witnessed anything.
DS Dan Fussell, of Shirley CID, said: “This was a nasty assault in which a man sustained serious injuries. Before police arrived witnesses reported seeing three men arguing in Paignton Road near the play park and we are keen to try and piece together exactly what happened last night.”
The victim remains in a stable condition in Southampton General Hospital having undergone surgery to drain his lung.
A 36-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of causing Grievous Bodily Harm following this incident.
