Police appeal for witnesses after fire in Overton

Press Releases

Published: 04/06/2010

Police are appealing for witnesses after a fire in Overton overnight between Tuesday, June 1 and Wednesday, June 2.

Sometime overnight a fire was started under a climbing frame and slide at the play park in Edward Kersley playing fields.

The slide was completely destroyed by the fire.

PC Richard Baldwin, of the Overton Safer Neighbourhoods Team, said: “Playing with fire is extremely dangerous and although nobody was injured somebody could have been badly hurt.

“This is also a frustrating incident as the people affected by this are the children who use and enjoy the play area.

“We would ask anyone with information about what happened or anybody who knows who was responsible to contact us as soon as possible.”

Can you help?

Southern Crimestoppers Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Baldwin at Whitchurch police station on 101 or call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111. Mini-Com users can call 01962 875000. From outside Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, please call 0845 045 45 45.
