Police appeal for witnesses after bins are set alight in Basingstoke

Police are appealing for witnesses after two bins were set on fire outside an address in Basingstoke during the early hours of Saturday, May 1.

Between 1.30am and 1.45am two wheelie bins were set alight outside a house in Packenham Road.

The fire caused damage to the front of the house but did not spread.

PC Stephen Morrison, of the Basingstoke Targeted Patrol Team, said: “This was a potentially very dangerous fire, started deliberately by someone who has no regard for the safety of others.

“The house was occupied by a family including two children and fortunately the fire did not spread and nobody was injured.

“Lighting fires like this is irresponsible and could result in serious injury or even death.

“We want to hear from anyone who witnessed the fire being lit or anyone with any information about who was responsible.”
