Police in Portsmouth are appealing for witnesses after an attempted robbery. A 21-year-old man was confronted by a man on his driveway in Mablethorpe Road, Wymering as he returned home from work. This happened between 10.15 and 11pm on Wednesday June 17.

The would-be robber demanded money and then pulled out what initially looked like a gun. The man quickly realised it was a toy and challenged him. The man then ran off empty handed.

He is described as:

  • White
  • Around 5ft 6 tall
  • Slim build
  • Short brown hair
  • Wearing a new, dark blue “Musto” jacket with a hood; white t-shirt; light blue jeans and tan coloured slip on shoes

PC Steve Ellis who is investigating said: “I’d like to hear from anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious at the time of this attempted robbery. In particular, did you see a group of four men in the Mablethorpe Road, Wymering area?

“We have a very good description of the suspect and feel certain that someone knows who he is. I’d like to reassure the local community that this is an isolated and unusual incident.”

Can you help?
