Police in Basingstoke are appealing for witnesses after an attempted distraction burglary.

It happened on Friday November 11 at 5.45pm, at Princes Crescent. Two men knocked on the door of an elderly woman’s home saying they needed to turn off the water supply.

The 84-year-old refused to let the men in.

One of the men is described as:

• 40 years old

• Stocky build

• Short, thick, dark hair

• Pock marked skin

Detective Constable Paul Smith is investigating: “We take this type of attempted burglary very seriously as it can have a huge impact on the victim.

“Thankfully the woman in this case did not let the men into her property, but it is all too easy to be persuaded by people who call at your door.

“We always advise that if someone calls at your home announced and offers to do work you had not arranged, do not let them into your property. If you have any concerns, call police on 101.

“Ask  the caller for identification and call their company to double check-any legitaimate caller would not mind you doing this.”

 Crime ref: 44110478513
