Police appeal for information after truck is driven into Canoe Lake Portsmouth

Police are making an appeal for witnesses to come forward after a mechanical dump truck was driven into Canoe Lake.

Between 2am and 3.20am on Sunday, January 31, police received reports of a small group of people driving the vehicle, taking it a short distance into the lake, and then trying to get it back out again.

Officers attended the area and spoke with three men found at the scene. No arrests were made.

It is thought the vehicle had been taken from a nearby worksite. It was later removed from the water by a crane, and required some repairs but is now working properly.

PC Bundy said, “Though this incident took place in the early hours of the morning, the vehicle taken is a large yellow dump truck and is not only very noticeable, but would also have made a lot of noise. I am appealing for anyone who heard or saw anything to contact police if they have not already spoken to us. In removing this vehicle from where it was parked the offenders also damaged other machinery nearby, and it is important we identify those responsible for this recklessness.”
