Police appeal for information after serious sexual assault in Portsmouth

Detectives in Portsmouth are appealing for witnesses after a serious sexual assault on Sunday March 22.

It happened between 2 and 3am close to the junction of Burnaby Road and Park Road near to Gunwharf Quays.

A 29-year-old man from Cosham was walking alone when he was confronted by two men. They assaulted him in a secluded pathway opposite the Registry Building on Burnaby Road, just north of the railway bridge.

Detective Inspector Charlie Rimmer is investigating said: “This was an unprovoked and opportunist attack on a lone male who was making his way home from a night out.

“He was subjected to a traumatic attack, and it is vital that we identify these men as quickly as possible.”

 Detectives are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious or out of the ordinary, in particular anyone walking through the area between 2 and 3 am.
