Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a man was attacked by a group of youths in Arundel Street, to the east of Upper Arundel Street in Portsmouth.
A CCTV camera in Arundel Street has captured the group before the incident, and officers are hoping that releasing this image may assist in identifying those involved.
The 48-year-old man was driving home from work at around 11.30pm last night, Wednesday, September 2, when he slowed because the group of youths were walking in the road.
The man heard a bang on his rear window as he passed the group and stopped his car to get out and inspect any damage.
He was then assaulted by some of the group.
The man was found lying unconscious on the ground a few minutes later by a passing taxi driver.
The man was taken to Queen Alexandra hospital by ambulance for treatment to a cut on the back his head and a possible broken jaw.
Three of the group who attacked the man are described as:
Youth 1:
- White
- Aged 17 or 18 years old
- 5ft 8ins tall
- Slim build
- Light brown hair
- Dressed in light coloured clothing
Youth 2:
- Asian appearance
- Aged 17 or 18 years old
- 5ft 8ins tall
- Slim build
- Possibly had braids in his hair
- Wearing a black tracksuit
Youth 3:
- White
- Aged 17 or 18 years old
- Had a narrow face, described as ‘weasly’
- Wearing a black hooded top
Detective Constable Dave Anderson said, “This was an unprovoked and very serious attack. If you are able to identify the offenders or have any information which may prove useful to police I would urge you to contact us immediately.”
