Police in Portsmouth are appealing for witnesses to a collision where a car struck a pedestrian and failed to stop in Anchorage Road.

At 9.02am on Friday, January 23, a 57-year-old woman from Fratton was crossing the road heading towards the Morrisons store, when she was struck by a passing vehicle.

The vehicle is described as a red old style car derived van, or possibly an estate car. The car impacted with the woman on its front passenger side.

The car will now be missing a black side mirror, which came off during the collision, and may also have headlight damage on the passenger side.

The woman was taken to Queen Alexandra hospital for treatment to a cut on her head and a fractured pelvis, and she also required an operation on her knee.

PC Mark McDermott said, “Though not life threatening, this woman’s injuries were very serious and it is vital that we find the driver of the vehicle involved in this incident in order to clarify what happened. The weather was very bad when the crash occurred, however being early in the morning many would have been in the area making their way to work or going about their daily business, and I would encourage anyone who thinks they can help to contact police.”

Can you help?

Southern Crimestoppers Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Mark McDermott at Cosham police station on 0845 045 45 45 or call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111. Mini-Com users can call 01962 875000.
