Police appeal following attempted robbery in Portsmouth

Press Releases

Published: 17/02/2009

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after an attempted robbery took place yesterday, Tuesday, February 16.

Between 10.20pm and 10.30pm, a 44-year-old man from Fratton was walking along Selbourne Terrace, making his way home.

As he turned into Claremont Road he saw two youths stood on the corner. One of the youths approached the man from behind and demanded money, which the man refused.

The youth then punched the man in the face before repeating the demand for money, which the man, again, refused. The youth then walked away, in the direction of Thorncroft Road.

The youth is described as:

  • white
  • 16 years old
  • 5ft 6ins tall
  • short brown hair
  • wearing Adidas sports clothing

PC Steve Webber said, “This appears to be an opportunistic crime and a brazen attempt by the youth involved. If anyone saw what happened or has any information I would urge then to make contact with me.”

Can you help?

Southern Crimestoppers Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Steve Webber at Fratton police station on 0845 045 45 45 or call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111. Mini-Com users can call 01962 875000.
