Published: 27/04/2009

Police investigating an attempted robbery and assault in Somerstown, Portsmouth are appealing for witnesses.

On Sunday 26 April between 3.20 and 3.40pm a 19-year-old man from Southsea was walking along St Paul’s Road with two friends when a man shouted over to them. The man approached the teenager and put his arm around him and then became more aggressive-demanding his mobile and his MP3 player.

He then head butted the man and bit him several times on the arm in an attempt to steal his MP3 player.

Detective Constable Katie Wakefield is investigating and said: “Please contact the police if you saw this attack or have any information on who was responsible.

“This was a vicious attack on a random person on a sunny Sunday afternoon and there would have been people walking around or possible sitting in their gardens. There was quite a bit of shouting going on. “A white van drove past at the time of the incident but did not stop.”

A man has been arrested and given police bail.
