Police appeal following assault in Portsmouth

Police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted in Guildford Road, Portsmouth sometime between 3.30 and 5pm on Sunday, December 11.  

A 24-year-old Polish man was walking home after work when he was approached by two men who demanded money from him. When he refused to hand it over they assaulted him and were joined by two other men. The man was assaulted by all four men.  

A woman, who was standing nearby, saw what happened and screamed which drove the offenders away.  

The man sustained severe swelling to his face, damage to his eye, grazes on his face and discomfort all over his body from being kicked.  

Nothing was stolen.  

Detective Constable Verity Lamb said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident, particularly the woman who screamed when she saw what was happening. She may be able to help us identify the offenders.”
