Police appeal following an assault in Southampton

Detectives are appealing for information after a woman was assaulted in woods near Imber Way, Sholing, Southampton.  

The 29-year-old local woman was walking a dog along a path which runs parallel to Willow Tree Walk at around 10.15am this morning (Wednesday, May 25), when she was approached by a man.  

The man grabbed hold of the woman’s left arm and spun her round. The dog growled at the man and he kicked the dog before running away.

The woman was not injured.  

The man is described as:  

·           White
·           In his late 40s
·           Approximately 5ft 6ins tall
·           Large build
·           Short shaved grey balding hair
·           Fluffy grey eyebrows and blue eyes
·           Scruffy, unkempt appearance
·           Wearing a light coloured short sleeved top, baggy pale stone washed jeans and dark coloured shoes  

DS Gareth Jones of Bitterne CID said: “We would appeal to anyone who may have seen this man or has any information to contact us. As a precaution we would encourage women to exercise increased vigilance and be even more aware of their personal safety, reporting any suspicious activity to police.”
