Published: 04/02/2009

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward after a car was damaged by three youths while the driver was sat inside, as he was waiting to enter a roundabout at the end of Commercial Road, connecting Lake Road and Cornmill Street in Portsmouth.

Between 4.15pm and 4.30pm on Friday, January 23, a 27-year-old man from Southsea was sat at the junction ready to enter the roundabout when three youths passed by.

One of the youths jumped onto the bonnet of the man’s car, a blue Vauxhall Vectra, whilst the other two began kicking the car, causing damage to the front bumper and to the nearside of the car, before the group ran away, in the direction of Holbrook Road.

The first youth, who jumped onto the bonnet of the car, is described as:

  • White
  • 5ft 10ins tall
  • Slim build
  • Short brown hair
  • Wearing a pale coloured hooded tracksuit top and tracksuit bottoms

The second and third youths are described as:

  • White
  • Shorter than the first youth – around 5ft 5ins tall
  • Slim build
  • Wearing a hooded tracksuit top and tracksuit bottoms

PC Stephen Wroe said, “This was an unprovoked incident that has caused considerable damage to the man’s car, which took place in a busy area during the early rush hour, and so there would have been a number of other cars and pedestrians around who may have seen something, and I would ask those people to come forward, as their information will assist our investigation.”
