Police are appealing for information after two youths were assaulted whilst on their way to see friends on Friday, February 13.
Between 8.15am and 8.30pm, a 16-year-old boy, 16-year-old girl, and a 17-year-old boy, were walking down Portsdown Hill Road, intending to meet up with a group of friends at the car park.
As they passed The George pub, they saw a group stood outside. Four youths from the group began to follow them.
The group were whistling and eventually stopped the three who were walking ahead. The group asked for cigarettes, before asking if any of the three were from Purbrook, to which the 16-year-old boy replied he was. Three of the group then began attacking the two boys, punching them repeatedly, and one of them took the 17-year-old’s mobile phone. The girl was unharmed during the incident.
The youths were left with cuts and bruises, and were both taken to the Queen Alexandra hospital for treatment.
Detective Constable Alison Richards said, “This was an unprovoked attack on three young people who were on their way to meet some friends on Portsdown Hill. They did not give any cause to be assaulted in such a manner by the group. They have been left shocked by what has happened. If anyone saw the incident I would urge you to contact police”
Three youths from Cosham, aged 15, 16 and 17 years old, were arrested yesterday (Monday, February 16), and have been released on police bail.
