Police appeal after woman is indecently assaulted in Portsmouth

Press Releases

Published: 11/02/2009

Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a woman was indecently assaulted as she walked home on Tuesday, February 10.

At around 3.10pm, the 20-year-old woman from Southsea was at the junction of Kings Street and Eldon Street in the Somerstown area of Portsmouth, when she was approached by a man.

The man asked her a question, to which the woman replied, and then as he turned to walk away he touched her bottom, with his hand on top of her underwear but underneath her skirt.

The woman was shocked and quickly walked away. A second or so later she heard a car door slam shut, however she did not look back and so this may have been the man getting into a vehicle, or a potential witness to the incident.

The man is described as:

  • Asian
  • 5ft 11ins tall
  • Slim to medium build
  • Around 28 years old
  • Long black hair tied up in a bun on the top of his head
  • Stubble on his face and long sideburns
  • Wearing a navy blue long sleeved shirt, that was tucked into navy blue trousers that looked of a similar style to overalls

PC Lucy Allan said, “The woman has told police that there were a number of people in the area when this happened, and as it occurred during broad daylight I am sure there may have been people walking or driving past who may have seen the pair. Do you remember seeing a man of this description talking to a young woman, or perhaps seeing him immediately before or after the incident?  I would like to reassure people we are following up all lines of enquiry possible to try and identify this man.”

Can you help?
