Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a woman was seriously injured following an incident in Beach Road, Southsea.
At 2.30am, an altercation took place between a man and a woman which resulted in the woman being assaulted. The pair are known to one another.
The 24-year-old woman sustained a fractured cheek bone and a broken nose and was taken to the Queen Alexandra hospital for treatment.
PC Chris Dinenage said, “We are appealing for anyone who has information to get in touch – it has been reported that the man and woman were arguing loudly in Beach Road before the assault took place and so residents or people in the area may have heard or seen them.
“The facial injuries sustained by the woman are very serious and it is important that we are able to accurately piece together what happened.”
A 24-year-old man from Southsea has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and has been released on bail until November 18.
