Police are appealing for information after a woman was injured as her handbag was snatched in Richmond Place, Southsea.
At around 11.15pm on Wednesday, November 19, a 49-year-old woman from the Fratton area had been late night shopping at Debenhams in Palmerston Road and was walking back to her car.
As she walked down Richmond Place a man approached her and tried to grab her handbag.
The woman struggled against the man who then pushed her over onto the ground, taking the handbag and running away.
The woman suffered cuts and grazes to her hands, face and knees. She went to the Queen Alexandra hospital for treatment to her injuries.
The handbag and some of the contents were later recovered in Wilton Place, but a mobile phone and £250 cash had been stolen.
The man who stole the bag is described as:
- Black
- Aged in his early 20s
- 5ft 10ins tall
- Medium build
- Clean shaven
- Short dark hair
Detective Constable Ceri Spratt said, “This type in incident in unusual in this area of Southsea and the woman involved was left very upset by what happened. Though it was late at night there may have been other shoppers leaving Palmerston Road or even people living nearby who may have heard or seen something, and so I would urge anyone who can help to call us now.”
