Detectives have launched an investigation after two burglaries were reported in Stanley Avenue, Portsmouth.

At some time between 9am on Friday, February 19 and 2pm on Sunday, February 21, a house was broken into by forced entry though the back door. The garage was entered, though nothing was taken, before the house was also entered.

The offender(s) stole a red Head rucksack, a black iPod, a Nintendo Wii console along with 20 games, a Wii Fit and a Tony Hawkes ‘ride’ accessory for the Wii. Also stolen was a car key, four rings, one Bapex watch, Gucci shoes, a Gucci handbag, around 20 aftershaves and an HP Compaq computer.

The total value of the items stolen is thought to be over £3000.

Between 4.30pm and 8.30pm on Sunday, a second house in the same road was also broken into. The garage was also entered, though nothing was taken, and then the back door to the house was forced open, damaging the cat flap in the process.

On this occasion a Sony flat screen television was stolen, along with £250 in cash, a silver and black iPod, a silver Sony camera, a pair of ‘smoky blue’ Chanel sunglasses and two Dell laptops, one red and one blue.

The total value of the items stolen in the second incident is thought to be over £2000.

Detective Constable Dave Higgins said, “A lot of expensive items were stolen during these incidents, and I would urge people locally to look out for items like these being offered for sale and report it to police if they have any relevant information.

“We are carrying out a number of enquiries and we do believe that the burglaries may be linked. If you were in the area and saw anyone or anything suspicious please call the police, as you may be able to help us identify who is responsible.”
