Police are appealing for information after a woman’s bag was stolen as she was out shopping on Tuesday, March 17.
At 9.45am, a 78-year-old woman from Bishops Waltham was shopping in Tesco’s on Cosham High Street.
The woman was at the till paying for her shopping, and she placed her handbag on the floor.
As the cashier was handing over the change they shouted ‘Bag!’ and the woman turned to see a man who had been next to her at the till running out of the shop with her handbag.
The handbag contained £10, a mobile phone, a pair of reading glasses, a multi tool pen knife (Scout Knife), some plasters, pens and a packet of Lockets.
The man is described as:
- White
- At least 5ft 10ins tall
- Aged between 30 and 45 years old
- Clean shaven
- Short dark hair
- Wearing a light coloured coat which went down to below his knees
PC Matt Bavin said, “This was an opportunist and cowardly theft where the man appears to have taken advantage of the fact that the woman was distracted. She is an older lady who has limited mobility and was very upset by what happened. I would encourage any witnesses to come forward – were you in the shop or perhaps in Cosham High Street and saw a man fitting this description? If you think you can help please get in touch.”
Can you help?
