Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was robbed whilst walking home on Thursday, April 9.

Between 10pm and 10.45pm, a 22-year-old man, who is a student at the University of Portsmouth, had parked his car on Cottage Grove and was walking to his house, which wasn’t far away, and carrying a Tesco ‘bag for life’.

He was aware of two youths walking behind him who were calling out to him, but he ignored them and kept walking.

Suddenly one of the youths grabbed hold of the bag the man was carrying. The man struggled for a moment but was afraid of what the pair may do to him and so let go of the bag.

The youths left, taking the bag with them.

The bag was dark blue and had white writing on the side, and contained some books, a black iPod Classic, and a white Mac Book in a black case.

The youths are described as; youth 1:

  • White
  • 5ft 6ins tall
  • Between 16 and 18 years old
  • Slim build
  • Wearing a dark coloured tracksuit

Youth 2:

  • White
  • 5ft 7ins tall
  • Between 16 and 18 years old
  • Slim build
  • Short dark hai
  •  Wearing a dark jacket which had a white mark on the shoulder

PC Pierre Bertram said, “This incident happened quite quickly and left the man involved very shaken up, and we are very keen to identify the pair responsible as soon as possible. If you recognise their descriptions or can offer any information which may help please contact the police.”
