An appeal for witnesses has been made by officers investigating a robbery which took place at around 2am on Sunday, October 23.
A 24-year-old man had been on a night out with friends, and was walking down Portswood Road.
As the reached the junction with Lodge Road he was approached by a small group of men who spoke to him briefly before one of the group stole his mobile, while was in his hand.
The man gave chase and tackled the offender, who fell to the ground and dropped the phone, which the man picked up. The offender then got up and hit the man a number of times.
The man suffered some swelling and bruising after being hit on the head during the incident.
The offender is described as:
- White
- Around 6ft tall
- Slim build
- Short hair
- Aged between 16 and 21 years
- Wearing a dark coloured top and either jeans or tracksuit bottoms
PC Andrew Alderson said, “This was an opportunist attempt to steal a man’s phone as he was making his way home. Did you see what happened? Perhaps you were part of the group the offender was with that night and you know who they are. I’d like to speak to anyone who thinks they can help with this enquiry.”
