Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was robbed in Lion Street, in the car park of the Portland Building, Portsmouth.

At around 7pm on Monday, October 27, a 31-year-old student from Fratton was walking down Lion Street when she was approached from behind by a man and a woman.

The pair stopped the woman, who turned and saw that the man was holding a knife, which was approximately 6inches long, similar to a kitchen knife.

The couple walked the woman across the road and told her to empty her pockets, which she did. She also had a backpack, which the other woman looked through and took items out of.

The pair stole a Samsung mobile phone, some bank cards, books and £500 in cash.

They then walked off towards William Booth house, before the woman lost sight of them.

The couple are described as:

Man:

  • White
  • Aged in his mid 20s
  • Tall
  • Average build
  • Wearing a black jacket and jeans

Woman:

  • White
  • Slim build
  • Wearing a nose stud
  • Stained teeth
  • Wearing a brown jacket and blue jeans

Detective Constable Daisy Sharma said, “This was a very shocking experience for this woman and we are very keen to try and identify the people who carried out the robbery as soon as possible. Lion street is well lit and in a residential area and so if you think you saw or heard anything or you recognise these descriptions please call police.

“It is advisable when walking alone to stick to roads which are lit, not to carry large amounts of cash on you, and let someone know where you are going if possible.”

Can you help?
