Police are appealing for witnesses after a robbery in Whitchurch on Monday, May 11.
Between 4.50pm and 5.15pm a nine-year-old boy was at the entrance to a field in Neuvic Way. He was approached by a teenage boy who asked to see his mobile phone.
When he didn’t hand it over the teenager pushed the boy and stole the phone before running off. A Vodaphone 727 mobile phone was stolen.
The teenager is described as:
- White
- 13 years old
- About 5ft tall
- Wearing a dark blue baseball cap with white ‘NY’ logo, a blue zip up jacket, baggy blue jeans and black skater shoes with green laces.
PC Stephan West, of the Whitchurch Targeted Patrol Team, said: “Incidents like this are rare and this robbery happened in daylight when other people may have been around.
“We would ask anyone with information to contact police as soon as possible.”
Hampshire Constabulary offers the following Safer Streets advice:
- You will be safest in bright, well lit and busy areas. Avoid taking routes that take you through unlit, unpopulated areas.
- Try to look and act confident – look like you know where you are going.
- Try to keep valuables out of sight. Do not advertise to criminals that you have items of value on you.
- If someone tries to take something from you, it might be better to let them take it, rather than risk being injured in a confrontation.
- Report the incident to police. It is important for the police to build up an accurate picture of where crimes are occurring so they can try to prevent them.
- Call your bank or credit card company as soon as possible and put a stop on all your cards – the phone number will usually be on your statement, can be found at cash machines or by calling directory enquiries.
