Police are appealing for information after a paramedic was shot at with an air rifle or BB gun whilst attending an emergency call in Watts Road, Portsmouth.

At around 12.20pm yesterday (Wednesday, December 3), a Rapid Response Motorbike Paramedic was treating a man who had fallen from a lorry, along with colleagues from an attending ambulance.

The motorcyclist had his helmet on, and became aware of being hit on the helmet, and also saw pellets hit the ground near to where he was. The ambulance was also hit with a pellet.

The group had been fired at with what is thought to have been an air rifle or BB gun, though the offender was not seen.

The injured man was taken to Queen Alexandra hospital.

PC Steve Webber said, “We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who knows who may have shot the pellets to come forward. Thankfully no one was injured however this could have been a much more serious incident, and to target the emergency services whilst they are treating an injured person is truly shocking.”
