Police are appealing for information after a man was robbed in front of his heavily pregnant girlfriend on Thursday, February 12.

At 9.30am, a 19-year-old man from Fratton, and a 20-year-old woman from Portsea, were walking over the railway bridge known as Jacobs Ladder, just off of Greetham Street.

The couple were approached by a group of three men, one of whom bumped into the man as they passed him. The man felt threatened and tried to move away from the group, but tripped and fell as he did so. One of the group then held him against the wall, while another removed his mobile phone and money from his pockets, before they all walked away.

Neither the man or woman were injured as a result of the incident, but were both left very shaken. A Nokia mobile phone and £78 in cash were stolen.

The three men are described as:

Man 1:

  • White
  • Aged in his late teens or early 20s
  • 6ft tall
  • Slim build
  • Wearing a black waterproof coat which had a hood

Man 2:

  • White
  • Aged in his late teens or early 20s
  • 5ft 8ins tall
  • Stocky build
  • Wearing a green hooded top
  • Has a cast on his right hand

Man 3:

  • White
  • Aged in his mid teens
  • Wearing a black Stoke City woollen hat

PC David Humphry, investigating the incident, said, “We are appealing for any witnesses to this incident, or anyone who recognises the descriptions of these men, to come forward, but in particular we believe that a man was walking his dog nearby when the attack took place and may have seen or heard something, and so I am also appealing directly to that man to get in touch.”
