Police are launching a witness appeal after two men threatened a man with knife and stole money from him on Fratton Road, at the junction with Garnier Street, Portsmouth.

At some time between 9.15pm and 11.15pm on Tuesday, November 24, an 18-year-old man was walking home from a friend’s house when he was approached by two men.

One of the pair put his arm around the man’s neck and searched his pockets, as the other stood in front of him, holding out a knife and demanding money.

The first man, who had searched through the lone man’s pockets, took £120 cash from inside the man’s wallet before the pair made off.

The man was not injured but was very shaken by the incident. The knife was a silver kitchen knife of between eight and 10 inches in length, and the first man was also holding a metal bar around one foot long.

The first man is described as:

  • Black
  • Medium build
  • Over 6ft tall
  • Aged between 26 and 30
  • Wearing a black jacket and jeans, and a brown scarf that was covering his head and face so that only his eyes were visible

The second man, who had the knife, is described as:

  • Black
  • Slim build
  • Over 6ft tall, and slightly taller than man 1
  • 25 years old
  • Wearing a yellow t-shirt with black jeans and a black jacket, and a black hat with a scarf across his face

Detective Constable Annie Keir said, “This was a very frightening experience for the man involved, who did not argue or struggle with his attackers in any way. This type of occurrence is rare in the city and very shocking, and we want to speak to anyone who may have seen this robbery take place, or perhaps seen the men in the area before or afterwards.”

Can you help?
