Police are appealing for witnesses after a man’s ear was cut during an incident which took place outside the Crasswell Street multi storey car park in Portsmouth.

At 10.27pm on Friday, January 2, a 27-year-old man from Iraq was approached by a young man on a bike, with a young woman walking alongside him.

There was a brief conversation between the three people, when the Iraqi man went to walk away. As he did so he was struck to the side of the head with something shiny, and the man and woman he had been speaking to left quickly.

The blow caused a deep cut to the man’s ear and he began bleeding profusely. He walked quickly to a nearby bus stop in Arundel Street, opposite St Edmunds School, where a man and a woman helped him and called for an ambulance.

The man was taken to Queen Alexandra hospital, where he received multiple stitches to the wound. He may also require reconstructive surgery to rebuild his ear where it has been damaged.

The man on the bike is described as:

  • White
  • Approximately 17 years of age
  • Slim build
  • Wearing a hooded top
  • Riding a bike

The woman he was with appeared to be of a similar age.

Detective Constable Dan Sanzen-Baker said, “This man suffered a serious injury and we are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area around 10.30pm and saw the young man on the bike and the young woman he was with to call us.”
