Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after an altercation where a man was attacked with a bottle in the early hours of Sunday, March 29.

Between 2.25am and 2.35am, a 23-year-old man was stood outside of ‘Ken’s Kebabs’ on Albert Road, waiting for his friends.

The man became involved in a verbal altercation with a group stood nearby, of around 10 youths, some of whom were being rowdy and drinking bottles of lager.

One of the youths suddenly hit the man in the face with their bottle. As the bottle hit the man’s face it broke, cutting him.

The man fell to the ground, and some of the group then began kicking the man’s head and body, before they all ran away in the direction of Waverley Road.

The group all appeared to be aged between 13 and 15 years old, and the youth who hit out with the bottle was wearing a white tracksuit top.

The man was taken by ambulance to the Queen Alexandra hospital for treatment to his left eye, which was very swollen and bruised after being hit with the bottle, and cuts to his nose and upper lip, which required stitches.

Detective Constable Katie Wakefield said, “This was a particularly vicious incident which took place when this man confronted the group over their rowdy behaviour, resulting in a horrific attack. Although this was late at night there were a number of people making their way home who may have seen what happened or seen the group in the area and I would urge them to contact me.”
