Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted during an incident on London Road, North End, Portsmouth.

At around 4.30am on Tuesday, November 17, a 20-year-old man was making his way home from a night out in Guildhall Walk.

As he neared the McDonald’s restaurant the man saw a group of four men, who crossed the road onto the same side as him. He stepped aside as they passed by but one of the group bumped into him.

The man turned and the man who had bumped into him started kicking him in the stomach area.

The man bent over to protect himself and received a number of further blows. He then felt someone grab at his back pocket, where his wallet was kept.

Fearful of his wallet being stolen he reached out with one arm and hit one of the group. The group then ran away.

The man attended the Queen Alexandra hospital and received pain killers for some pain in his side.

The group are described as: Man 1:

  • Black
  • 19-20 years old
  • Around 6ft tall
  • Shaved head and long stubble on his chin
  • Wearing a hooded grey zip up jumper

Man 2:

  • Black
  • 19-20 years old
  • Around 6ft tall (though slightly taller than Man 1)
  • Wearing a light coloured hooded jumper which had a dark pattern across the chest area, with the hood up. Also wearing baggy blue jeans and white trainers

Man 3 and Man 4:

  • Black
  • 19-20 years old

PC Charlotte Pocock said, “This is an unprovoked attack on a lone man by four people. Fortunately the man involved has not sustained significant injuries, however the consequences of this attack could have been much worse. If anyone witnessed this incident or has any information please contact me.”
