Police appeal after man assaulted in Andover

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted while making his way home from a friend’s house in Andover.

At 11.45pm on Saturday, September 8, a 32-year-old man was walking along the grassy area between Western Avenue and Charlton Road. He was passing the statue, near to Folly Roundabout.

He was approached by four men who carried out an unprovoked attack on the man, knocking him to the ground and then punching and kicking him repeatedly, before he managed to escape and called police.

The man suffered cuts and bruises to his head, face, hands and chest as a result of the incident. He was seen by paramedics and taken to hospital. He returned home later the same day.

The group are described as:

Man 1:

  • White
  • 5ft 9ins tall
  • Aged between 17 and 21
  • Stocky build
  • Wearing a beige or grey long sleeved top with the sleeves rolled up, and jeans

Man 2:

  • White
  • 5ft 10ins tall
  • Aged between 18 and 20
  • Slimmer than the first man
  • Short dark hair
  • Wearing a dark blue hooded jumper which had a white logo of writing in a circle on the chest, a dark combat style trousers

Man 3:

  • White
  • 5ft 6ins tall
  • Aged between 17 and 20
  • Shirt dark hair
  • Wearing jeans and a maroon coloured t-shirt

Man 4:

  • White
  • Around 6ft tall
  • Aged between 18 and 20
  • Very stocky build
  • Dark curly hair, which was longer than the other men

PC John Miller said, “We are looking for any witnesses to this unprovoked assault or anyone who can identify the offenders. It is possible someone may have been in the area and seen the group wither before or after the incident happened. This is an isolated incident, but we would advise people when walking late at night to keep to well lit areas.”
