Detectives are asking for witnesses to come forward after a man’s jaw and cheekbone were fractured during an incident outside Babylon night club in Guildhall Walk, Portsmouth.
At 2.35am on Sunday, December 14, a 21-year-old man from Havant had been on a night out in the Guildhall Walk area when he was attacked by a group of group of men who kicked, punched, and stamped on him.
The group ran off when police attended the scene, and many were detained by officers shortly afterwards.
The man who was attacked suffered a fractured jaw and cheekbone, and was taken to Queen Alexandra hospital. He underwent surgery yesterday (Sunday, December 14) and currently remains in the hospital.
Detective Constable Pete Bambury said, “It appears that this incident started as an argument between two groups of men stood outside The White Swan pub. Police in the area separated the groups and sent them on their way, however their paths crossed again later, outside of the Babylon night club, when the injured man was attacked.
“This was a serious incident that has left one man with horrendous injuries. The altercation spilled out into the road and a nearby car was even damaged. At this time of night many would be making their way home and so may have seen or heard what happened, and I am urging these people to contact us as soon as possible.”
Seven men have been arrested in relation to this incident and released on police bail to return on February 27, 2009. Their details are as follows:
