Police are making an appeal for witnesses after a woman’s handbag was snatched as she made her way home yesterday (Sunday, November 15).
At around 8.50pm the 79-year-old woman was in Grove Road South when someone ran past her, grabbed her handbag and ran towards Elm Grove.
The woman was shocked and upset by the incident but unharmed.
Inside the handbag was a red purse containing £4, a diary, comb, keys and photos. The photos, diary, comb and purse were later found discarded in a nearby alleyway.
The man who took the bag is described as:
- White
- Aged around 18 years old
- 5ft 8ins tall
- Messy, unkempt dark hair
- Smelled strongly of alcohol
- Wearing a grey top and white trainers
PC Marcus Kennedy said, “This incident was very distressing for the woman involved and I would encourage anyone who saw what happened to contact me.”
