Police are appealing for information after a man working as a takeaway delivery driver was robbed of money and food whilst delivering an order in Byerley Road, Portsmouth.
At 7.45pm on Saturday, January 31, the 37-year-old man from Southsea was delivering an order of Indian food to an address in Byerley Road. He delivered the order and went back towards his car, which was parked across the road.
As he returned to the car he saw a group of young people, both girls and boys, stood around the vehicle. Some of the group began shouting comments at the man.
Some of the youths then assaulted the man, hitting him repeatedly. They also took a small amount of cash and some Indian food from him before running away.
The man suffered cuts to his head and required hospital treatment.
Detective Constable Ceri Spratt said, “This was an opportunist attack by a group of youths and a rare occurrence. We are looking for any information that may assist with our enquiries, so if you were in the area and saw or heard anything please contact police.”
