Police are appealing for information after an object hit a car and smashed the back windscreen in Alec Rose Lane, Portsmouth.

At 4.40pm on Tuesday, December 16, a 38-year-old man from North End was taking his two daughters, aged six and nine, and their nine-year-old friend, to the library.

As he parked his car in Alec Rose Lane, alongside the multi storey car park, he heard something hit his car.

When he got out he discovered that the back windscreen of his car had been hit, and the glass had completely shattered, leaving two large holes.

No one was injured.

PC Darrell Cox, investigating the incident, said, “This incident had the potential to be far worse than it was, and it is very lucky that no one was injured, particularly as two of the young girls were sat in the back of the car.

“This was a very thoughtless act and we are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Has something similar happened there to you or did you hear or see anyone? The object may have been thrown from nearby or been dropped from above, and this is very dangerous.”

Can you help?

Southern Crimestoppers Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Darrell Cox at Fratton police station on 0845 045 45 45 or call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111. Mini-Com users can call 01962 875000.
