Police are appealing for information after a burglary took place at a property in Somers Road, where offenders forced entry and caused substantial damage.
The property had been empty awaiting new tenants, who were due to move in on September 12, which is when they discovered the break in.
The incident is thought to have taken place sometime between September 1 and 12.
The new occupants of the house arrived to find carpets and furniture strewn with paint, other items of furniture broken as though kicked or stamped on, the walls covered in red paint, along with several empty beer and cider cans left on the floor.
The walls and doors had also been spray painted with graffiti, displaying the letters ‘STBC’.
PC Allison Fraser said, “This crime has affected a lot of people; the builder who spent months cleaning and redecorating, the owner has had to pay for repairs to be done, the new residents who have been unable to move in, the letting agents who have had to find temporary accommodation for the new residents, and also the police officers and staff involved in investigating this offence.
“The damage caused has cost around £2000 in total, and this is a very serious crime. It is believed that the damage has been caused by juveniles, however we are appealing for anyone who may be able to help us identify those responsible. Do you recognise the ‘STBC’ graffiti? Did you hear or see anything suspicious in the area? Or are you aware of someone within your family or friends having red paint on them recently without any explanation?
“We are carrying out a number of enquiries and have recovered evidence from the property including DNA. If you know who caused this damage I would ask that you do the right thing and contact the police.”
Can you help?
