Police are appealing for information after a burglary took place at Elly’s Wine Store on Spur Road, sometime between last night and this morning.
Between 11pm when the shop closed last night (Wednesday, April 8) and 9.30am this morning, offenders broke into the store and stole a large quantity of cigarettes.
Two offenders ripped a hole in the flat roof of a store room at the back of the premises, before breaking through the plasterboard ceiling and climbing through to gain access to the store.
They then took cigarettes worth around £6500, before leaving the same way they entered.
Both offenders are described as being of average build, and were wearing dark clothing, including gloves, hooded tops with the hoods pulled up, and material covering their faces. On leaving the premises they were carrying the stolen cigarettes in black bin bags.
PC Michael Nol said, “This was a very unusual incident, and appears to be planned one, where the offenders have destroyed the roof to gain entry. I would appeal to anyone who may know anything about this incident, or perhaps you may know where the stolen cigarettes are being sold. If you can help in any way please contact the police.”
